Position Overview

We seek an experienced and compassionate Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) to join our Brooklyn Letters team on a private pay 1099 independent contracting basis. This role is ideal for candidates looking for special education jobs in NYC, offering the opportunity to work one-on-one with children in their homes, schools, or community settings across the NYC Metro Area.

We offer private pay SEIT cases, allowing flexibility in choosing your preferred work location. We receive requests from a broad range of areas, including NYC, Long Island, Westchester, and selected New Jersey (NJ) and Connecticut (CT) regions. This unique aspect of our program enables you to align your work with your geographic preferences, ensuring a better work-life balance while catering to the needs of diverse communities.

Key Responsibilities

– Design and implement individualized educational programs (IEPs) tailored to each child’s needs, a cornerstone of SEIT services in NYC.

– Provide specialized instruction to children with diverse learning needs, emphasizing academic skills, social-emotional development, and independence.

– Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure a cohesive approach to the child’s education and overall development.

Key Qualifications:

  • Required Education: Master’s degree in Special Education.

  • Certification: Must hold a valid New York State teaching certification in Special Education

  • Experience: Demonstrated experience working with preschool-aged children in a preschool setting. A strong background in developing and implementing IEPs, designing inclusive lesson plans, and effectively managing classroom dynamics is essential.

  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for collaborating with a diverse team and engaging with children and their families. Adapting teaching strategies to accommodate various learning needs and disabilities is required.

  • Completion of fingerprinting and background check.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and indirect special education services to preschool-aged children in inclusive settings.

  • Develop and implement IEPs with a multidisciplinary team, ensuring personalized support and progress toward educational goals.

  • Use evidence-based practices and strategies to facilitate learning and skill development.

  • Regularly communicate with families and team members about student progress, challenges, and successes.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and early childhood development.
