ONLINE PARENTING COACHING

What’s Happening Today?

This year, the coronavirus pandemic has brought plenty of challenges for millions of families around the world. And for the most part, parents have been shouldering the bulk of consequences and added responsibilities.

Parents are spread thin as they address disruptions in academics, uncertainty, anxiety, lack of socialization, and many other stressors. Aside from work and household responsibilities, they must now oversee their children’s learning, stem challenging behaviors, entertain, and manage schedules.

The current health crisis has also intensified many families’ common struggles. As such, interventions that may have worked in the past are no longer useful. My goal is to take advantage of both your and your child’s strengths in tackling these tensions. Together, we can discuss, create, and carry out a course of action for your family to help address these issues.

Some of the challenges that we can address are:

  • Strategies to help kids struggling with perfectionism, frustration tolerance, and confidence
  • Tools to help build organizational skills and habits
  • Practical strategies to create routine during an unpredictable time
  • Navigating new and unrelenting roles for caregivers
  • Managing anxiety and stress brought about by new transitions and unfamiliar situations
  • Assessing and redistributing household responsibilities.
  • Building your child’s self-regulation and social skills in an isolating environment
  • Managing difficult behaviors at home and in school
  • Building independence and self-sufficiency
  • Dealing with the screen time power struggle

Our Online Parent Coach Alana

Online Parenting Coaching, Brooklyn Letters

Alana received her BA in Psychology from Barnard College, her Master’s in Social Work from New York University, and a Master’s in Teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education. She has worked as both a school social worker and a teacher in the South Bronx, Harlem, and most recently, Westchester.

In a variety of settings, she collaborates with parents, teachers, and students to create and implement tailored interventions designed to meet each child where they are and cultivate the skills necessary for success in the classroom, at home, or in social situations.  Her experience includes working with students of all backgrounds and ages with ADHD, autism, social difficulties, oppositional behaviors, emotional disturbance, learning differences, and development delays.

Alana specializes in helping families navigate challenging behaviors, perfectionism, executive functioning, frustration tolerance, and self-esteem.  Her unique perspective of a social worker, teacher, and school leader provides parents with a comprehensive understanding of their child’s developmental stage and daily experience and allows for practical and effective strategizing around areas of need.

Working together, Alana seeks to empower parents and students in their own expertise, developing patterns, skills, and habits that will benefit them for years to come. Alana values culturally responsive and strengths-based approaches and ground her guidance in these values.
