Private SEIT NYC

Children and parents of students with learning differences can seek assistance from local school districts and government agencies to support their classroom needs, such as having a Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) work with their child. Even if these agencies provide interventions, accommodations, and modifications, there are many times when one’s child may require additional help and support.
What is a Private SEIT NYC?
A private SEIT is a special education itinerant teacher who works with children with speech, language, developmental, behavioral, social, and emotional difficulties in integrating fully and efficiently into the classroom environment. SEITs aims to help children achieve their academic goals and integrate with their peers in class. By concentrating on the skills a child needs to develop along with their developing peers, the student’s classroom success rate is improved. Depending on the concern, Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) hours can be scheduled in either the school or home environment.
Teachers who work with students who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf and hard of hearing, as well as bilingual teachers, must be certified as a teacher of the blind and visually impaired, a teacher of the deaf, or a multilingual special education teacher.
When working with a student, the SEIT develops personalized strategies based on the student’s Individualized Education Plan or IEP. Based on each student’s needs and IEP recommendations, SEITs may work with students individually or in groups.
As the title implies, private SEITs go to a child’s school or home for direct or indirect services:
- Direct services involve helping a child develop his or her cognitive and academic skills for school.
- Indirect services include consultations and communication with guidance counsellors and other specialists to better serve the child.
Services provided by a SEIT may include:
- Assisting the student by developing the implementation of the IEP
- Implementing and monitoring behavioral management programs
- Working closely with the IEP team to develop lesson plans and implement a child’s IEP
- Coordinating with therapists and parents
- Parent training
Other educational programs or therapy may supplement the services provided by SEITs.
